A facade renovation is one of the largest costs an owners’ association or a developer faces. The scaffolding has to stay up for months either way. If the building sits where many people pass, the scaffolding can carry an advertising banner, and the rent goes to the property.
Here is how it works.
What is scaffolding advertising for a property?
Scaffolding advertising is a large banner on the scaffolding while the building is renovated. An advertiser rents the space for a period, and the property earns an income for making it available.
For the property, it is advertising on scaffolding during a renovation: the scaffolding is there anyway, so the banner uses a space that would otherwise just be scaffolding.
Can the advertising fund the facade renovation?
It can cover part of the cost. How large a part depends on four things:
- The location. A building on a busy road, junction or square is worth more than one on a quiet side street.
- The traffic. How many people pass each day, on foot, by bike and by car.
- The size. How large a space the banner can cover.
- The period. How long the scaffolding stays up.
Income from scaffolding advertising rarely funds the whole renovation, but it can make the bill smaller for the owners.
What does the association need to do?
That depends on your articles. Often the board can sign the agreement. In other associations it goes to a general meeting. We are happy to send a short description of the proposal you can use.
Contact us as soon as the renovation is planned, ideally before the scaffolding goes up. That leaves time to apply for the permit and find the right advertiser.
Who does what?
As a developer or owners’ association you do not have to find the advertiser or deal with the banner. We handle:
- Assessing the building: visibility, traffic and size
- The municipal permit for the banner
- The advertiser who rents the space
- Printing, installing and removing the banner
- Informing residents before the banner goes up
What about the residents?
A scaffolding banner is usually mesh, a material with small holes that lets air and some light through. We inform residents before the banner goes up, and it comes down when the scaffolding does.
Without a renovation: rent out the facade
If your facade or gable faces a busy road, you can also rent out the facade for advertising for a longer period, without any renovation. This works especially well for gables seen from a distance.
